The first C111, built in 1969, was fitted with a four-rotor Wankel engine producing 280 BHP and reached a top speed of around 160 mph thanks to the wind-cheating shape and a Cd approaching 0.35. Tested at Untertürkheim, Hockenheimring and the Nürburgring in April and May 1969, the car featured new anti-squat and anti-dive suspension technology which soon found its way into production cars.
